Glossary

• Synchronised Storage : A data storage area accessible through its Internet link. A studio can have different synchronised storages, one for each production.

• Synchronisation Hub : The central server is a hub which organises the file transfers between the connected storages. It is usually installed on a high availability physical machine in a datacenter to provide an optimal and continuous service.

• Synchronisation Channel : A sync channel is a set of instructions to synchronize some files between a hub and one of its connected storage, in one direction, using rsync.

• SyncPlanet Agent : The agents copy the files between volumes and inform the connected tracker. An agent (daemon) can scan the volume continually and will synchronize whenever a change is observed.

• SyncPlanet Tracker : The tracker is a server dedicated to the synchronisation of a project's files. It keeps tracks of each transfers, permitting to know the state of each connected volume and to define priorities.

• Filter : rsync filters are used to include or skip specific files or directories during the synchronisation process. Check out the documentation about the rsync filters.

• Rsync : Rsync is a free (as in freedom) and open source software to transfer files between a local and a remote storage. See rsync at Wikipedia , rsync website , rsync source code .
